Tarpon Fishing in the Florida KeysWell its June in Key Largo the summer is here and the fishing is hot, my favorite time of year for fishing the great silver king (Florida Tarpon) is between late April to the first of July. Fishing for Tarpon in Key Largo is at its peak right now with Captains boating numbers of the big silver beast, Drifting along The Florida bay with live crabs or live mullet is the choice of bait for most anglers, some prefer some site casting with fly rods which can be an exciting challenge.

The average sizes for the catches this month have been between 100 and 160 pounds, putting on one of the best aerial shows is half the enjoyment of catching tarpon, watching them come out of the water sometimes 3 to 4 foot high is the best part of the fight. The best chance of boating one of the big boys is in the early morning hours and the late afternoon, tarpon tend to be a bit nocturnal the height of their feeding hours are not typical of other fish species.

For a great chance to catch a big tarpon, check out Tarpon Fishing, we will be on the dock drinking a beer because there is no oil here. Until next time tight lines from Captain Wayne Gilbert Jr.
